Why we are in love with Budapest...

Running Tours Budapest was dreamt by Eszter Boda who had already found the joy in combining running and traveling a long time ago during her business trips. It didn’t take too long to find a few people who share her passion for running and the love for Budapest and its stories.  Today, Running Tours Budapest team works hard to collect all the interesting stories and legends about this great city and to find the best running tracks through the metropolitan. But the real magic is when we meet someone from the other half of the world who we can share the same passions with! Come, and let’s explore Budapest together!

I could tell you some interesting facts about Budapest now and try to prove that this is the best place in the whole wide world, but instead of this I will tell you why we at Running Tours Budapest are in love with this beautiful and mysterious city!
We love running along the mighty Danube and under its beautiful bridges no matter what season it is. This is why the Riverbank Tour is one of our favourite tours!
We love running through the colourful castle district where time has stopped and you feel like running through history itself.
We love the moment when we reach the top of Gellért-hill, on a chilly spring morning and our eyes fill with the tears of joy as we look down on the awakening city.
We love running across the Chain Bridge at night and watch the lights of the city everywhere…On the bridges, on the top of the hill, along the Danube, reflecting in the water…
We love when we meet another runner from the other side of the world, when we share our stories and passion for running with each other and we become friends.
We love the summer Budapest when there is a festival in every corner and the city is full of excited people!
We love the atmosphere of the city at night as we are sitting in one of the downtown’s bubbly pubs after a long run.
We love the hidden little streets of downtown where the houses and even the trees tell old stories about people long gone.
We love to run a little bit further and discover the beautiful forests and sights near Budapest.
We love to see the marks on our buildings what history made, and how Budapest went through the fires of adversity, because that is what made us who we are now.
WE LOVE BUDAPEST!

And we definitely love to share and experience these things with other runners from around the world! So, I hope we have convinced you after all that Budapest is an experience you shouldn’t miss out! And if one visit is not enough then we will see each other again!

Only marathon in the World having 2 UNESCO World Heritage sights on its course

Three records were broken on the 28th Spar International Marathon in Budapest on Saturday 12th!
This year 21 930 runners were registered which is 2500 more than last year and 4900 participants ran the whole marathon! Our splendid capital attracted 3000 foreign runners from over 68 countries! Seems like participants from last years were spreading the news and more and more people find Budapest a perfect destination to run their marathon!
Runners commented that it's a marathon where the course is not overcrowded but you don't feel alone on the route either. The participants completed their courses through the most beautiful parts of Budapest, they crossed world-heritage sites on their way. Running Spar International Marathon is not just a sport activity but also a sightseeing experience, which is very enriching for the soul!
Gabor Jozsa, three-times champion said that the course was harder but the crowd's incredible cheering compensated him for everything.
Many blind runners and contenders in wheelchair participated in the run with the help of other runners. Also 59 children from 42 countries of 5 continents complted the classic marathon course together, to draw the attention to the millions of children living in difficult conditions all over the world.

Running Tours Budapest Team also participated in the marathon, in cooperation with LÁSS! association for visually impaired people.
We hope to see you (again) next October at the marathon, but until then, if you visit Budapest, don't forget to book a tour with Running Tours Budapest! (www.runningtoursbudapest.com)

What makes sightseeing running tours a "must do"?

If you are a runner, you have a special sort of brain. You like challenges, sweating, grueling climbs and steps, spring breezes, leafy benches and of course running with others.  Why? Becuase you were designed to be this way. There is a drive which forces you to go certain routes to certain places. If you can share these memorable moments with someone, that is just all the better...
How can you find people you have things in common with? Let’s pick running for instance.
You can sign up for runners’ chatting, go to Facebook to seek like-minded activity groups, or look for special running related tweets on Twitter.
How can you find  people with similar interests during your travel or vacation?
That is not a question anymore. Running tours attract more and more people nowadays, and participants have at least one thing in common:  running as their passion. As we've experienced with Running Tours Budapest so far, all runners who take part in our tours have a similar soul.  So if you meet another runner while traveling, making a new friendship at the end of your mutual jog is a common-place occurrence.  You meet the most interesting and open-minded people from all over the world through this activity. This simple fact is universal.  You simply have to go out and do it!

Flood didn't stop Running Tours Budapest

In June, our beloved river, the Danube in Budapest decided to push its limits.

The heavy spring rains especially in Germany and Austria caused the greatest flood of the century in Central-Europe.

The water limit in Budapest broke records, the Danube obscured buildings, piers, half of the Margaret island, it was even awashing the the stairs of the Parlament!

Not only the locals were concerned and curious about the river's wrecking work, but many tourists watched the growing river with worry and admiration at the same time.

Some parts of the city were unaccessible, but we wanted to show our ethusiastic tourists the floody Budapest. The Riverbank Tour was a perfect sightseeing activity for that purpose! We ran along the Danube and admired the beautiful vistas of Budapest. The sunset was breathtaking: there was water and water everywhere and the setting sun reflected on the Danube...We even saw military helicopters making sure the level of the water is under control.

So did the flood stop us from discovering Budapest? No, not at all! We put on our trainers and found the safe little paths between the closed areas.

These running tours during the flood remain memorable for us for sure. We got to see our city and the Danube from a different perspective as the river looked so relaxed without all the heavy water transportation which usually takes place there. We also had the chance to run along the empty wharf and enjoy the refreshing company of the runners and bikers without all the noisy cars...
